About

Dental Surgeon - Dr. Richard Skinner
Oral Health Therapist - Kate Jolly

Dr. Richard Skinner
Dr. Richard Skinner graduated from Otago University in 1972. Otago University has an internationally renowned reputation for excellence in teaching and research.

Using cutting edge technology is central to Richard’s practice philosophy. All new treatment options that become available are evaluated for their possible benefits and are incorporated into our practice if they provide real benefit to the patient.

In the last ten years operating microscopes have become available for use in dentistry. These have already proved invaluable in microsurgery and most people are aware of the ability to reattach limbs and fingers in the medical area. The ophthalmic microscope has been adapted for dental use, and all endodontic specialists use one routinely. Richard is one of the few general dentists using a microscope routinely in their practices.

The merits of using a microscope in general dentistry are the range of magnifications that are possible enabling the dentist to locate trouble areas before they are apparent to the naked eye: the camera incorporated in the microscope allowing the patient to see on a television screen areas requiring treatment. Furthermore the images can be saved as part of the patient’s permanent dental records. The working position with the microscope is more comfortable for the dentist, which relates to less fatigue, a reduction in back problems and less stress, which must be a good thing for all concerned.

Kate Jolly – Oral Health Therapist

Kate Jolly graduated from The University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Oral Health in 2010, possessing qualifications in both dental hygiene and dental therapy.

Kate enjoys the challenge of treating periodontal disease and making an impact on improving a person’s oral health. She also loves to work with children modifying their home oral hygiene practices and aiding parents in the management of their child’s health, preventative and restorative needs.

Preventative measures may include fissure sealants, fluoride application, dietary counselling, smoking cessation, removal of plaque retentive factors, and oral hygiene instruction; all as deemed necessary.

Kate believes in a strong preventative focus and is strongly committed to fostering positive attitudes towards oral health. Part of her role is to educate and motivate people to maintain good oral hygiene, as an individual’s oral health contributes to their overall health.

Kate Jolly - Oral Health Therapist

Whilst studying, Kate also spent time working in the Northern Territory treating patients and conducting research in the area of Indigenous Oral Health and Oral Health Promotion.

Please note we accept Medicare Teen Dental at our surgery.

Once in our practice you will realize that we are fastidious in maintaining the highest possible level of cleanliness and infection control. To this end we have a B class autoclave, which has pre and post vacuum cycles to ensure sterilization of hollow instruments, common in dental practice today. Sterilized instruments are tracked and much of what we use is disposable for your protection.
